Modeling

Modeling is the process of using a pliant substance and molding it. It is typically done using clay, which can be molded into many different shapes, and can also be made as large or as small as desired. All works made of clay is called ceramics. Robert Arneson's Case of Bottles is a ceramic sculpture. The rough handmade quality of Arneson's work, a quality that clay lends itself to especially well, contrasts dramatically with his subject matter, mass-produced consumer products. He underscores this contrast by including in the case of Pepsi, a real 7-Up bottle.
