Atmospheric Perspective

Atmospheric perspective is the quality of atmosphere between us and large objects changes their appearance. This means that a haze at a mountain makes the mountain look different to the viewer compared to when there is no haze. Usually, with atmospheric perspective, objects that are far away seem less distinct. In the picture to the left, the mountains have a haze around them. The sunset behind makes them look like an orange-yellow color, while the closer smaller mountains look more natural and distinct. The farther mountains just appear as masses. In the painting on the right, by Leonardo Da Vinci, the mountains are clearly far away. It appears as though the mist is covering the bottoms of the mountains.
